New Residents to Georgia

New residents moving to Georgia have 30 calendar days after establishing their residency to register their vehicles. The out-of-state vehicle registration is no longer valid after the 30-day period.

Below are fee requirements:

  • Title Fee - $18.00
  • Tag Fee - $20.00
  • Trailer Tag Fee* - $12.00
  • Replacement Tag: Decal or Title - $8.00

*Trailers with a shipping weight of 2,000 pounds or less are not required to be titled in Georgia. The previous registration and/or bill of sale is required. If the trailer has never been registered in Georgia, Form T-22B must be completed.

Tag Fee for passenger vehicles and trucks weighing up to 14,000 loaded is $20.00.

Trucks with a gross vehicle weight over 14,000 (Truck and load) - Fees are based on the weight.

Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) is 7% of the value of the vehicle. To obtain an estimate, use the TAVT calculator. TAVT is a one-time fee. Business-owned vehicles (including leases) require full payment of TAVT at the time of registration. For individually-owned vehicles:

  • Established residents pay 7% of the fair market value of the vehicle.
  • New residents pay 3% of the fair market value of the vehicle.
